this explanation is going to suck but:
A psd is a photoshop document that is layers saved in a file, making the file easy to adjust and add to. Psds for coloring are adjustment layers saved into a file that you can continuously use like this one:

sometimes graphic makers give out psds of their work so you can see how they made their graphic step by step.

thank you! ヽ(;▽;)ノ I use this psd as a base: I make every adjustment layer invisible except for the black gradient fill and the layers that brighten. Then on top of it I just continue adding on adjustments depending on the picture so the resulting psd is usually always different.
